02 Media: SMS Marketing Still Superior to Mobile Apps

Although mobile apps are clearly all the rage, Shaun Gregory, the managing director of O2 Media, says it’s important not to place apps ahead of sound mobile marketing practices when it comes to utilizing the mobile space most efficiently in the promotional process.

Gregory advised firms to avoid the temptation of becoming wholly preoccupied with creating their own apps. Instead, he advised spreading one’s focus across a broad spectrum of opportunities in the mobile realm.

“Brands need to work out how apps fit into their wider mobile marketing strategy but many want to launch one before considering the alternatives,” Gregory told his audience at the FT Digital Media and Broadcasting Conference.

According to coverage of the event from New Media Age, Gregory revealed his view that applications “come into the advertising conversation far too early.” Rather, he offered, it’s vital to remember that traditional mobile marketing strategies like SMS marketing remain the most efficient and effective way to connect with mobile users.

I prefer Sm’s because according to Gregory advised firms to avoid the temptation of becoming wholly preoccupied with creating their own apps. Were so Thankful that Sm’s is still superior than everyone else. Thanks for sharing this article to us. More power to your site! God bless;-)

I’m not sure I agree with this premise. From a scalability perspective SMS can cost more than an app. I do agree that SMS should not be removed from the strategy, because no mobile marketing strategy should be hinged on one tactic.

I would argue that apps are where people have begun to communicate with businesses, whereas SMS feels more like email spam. Maybe a better question is how to leverage existing apps to include your marketing message, rather than make your own app and be lost in the noise.

Great article! It’s really important to have a solid mobile marketing strategy instead of just jumping into apps because it seems everyone else is doing it. I agree that SMS mobile marketing is a great place to start. It’s alot quicker and easier to set up than an app and there’s so many different campaign options so it can really grow with you.

  4. We have different point of views about sms marketing and mobile apps. Others may prefer to use mobile apps than sms marketing because as Eric has mentioned that SMS feels more like email spam. Other people may want to use mobile apps probably because they feel more comfortable with it.

I agree email SMS for marketing purpose is just that, a scam. You have little choice but to accept the call and yet how people actually process is still a mystery to how business with principles and ethics can survive. Us of email and or social networking is a little more selective and is controlled, whereas SMS once it reaches your phone it is there. Now that is not indicate you read it, so how meaningful and concerned are these business.Branded Merchandise and freebies would be far more suitable for the campaign.
