These days there are hundreds, if not thousands of mobile phone models and variations in the market. At the same time there is a host of new and exciting ones that we already know about and are making their way to our sweaty texting hands, for example the Nokia N95.
Years ago, a phone with a camera in was an amazing concept and one that has still not got to the quality it should be by now, however, a phone without a camera included these days is considered old, even if the phone is a new model and the customer may never want to use a camera, it just has to have it.
In the interest of… well interest, we asked David to choose his 5 must have mobile features and this is what he came up with: Read the rest

Online publisher CNET Networks UK is to launch a user-generated ‘Wi-Fi watch’ web site, which will publish unbiased and up-to-the-minute location reviews and reports about Wi-Fi hotspots aimed at business travellers.
The site, atlarge.com, has partnered with wireless networked operator The Cloud to give the latter’s customers access to the site from its hotspots. This will allow wireless Internet users to check the quality of connections in their locale before they subscribe to a service.
The web site features user reviews and ratings on subjects like Wi-Fi locations, costs and availability of power points.
We think it could be easier just to use something like the Wifi Seeker or a key ring signal finder. Anyone happen to know of some phone based software for doing the same?

Popular (that is, til it broke sometime back in April last year) UK-based SMS scam and spam reporting site 07TEXT 0SPAM has finally returned to the web, after an absence of around 10 months.
If you’ve never visited the site, here’s the deal: if you receive a junk text on your phone, forward it to 07TEXT 0SPAM (078398 07726) and they’ll do the rest.
Online for nearly four years now, the site is run on a completely voluntary basis, and supported by a selection of companies in the mobile and internet sectors.
Do you get much mobile spam on your phones? I have yet to get any bluetooth stuff (did that marketing method die a death?) but I do get lots of SMS spam which I now forward straight to these guys!

Orange has now confirmed that it has signed an exclusive deal with social networking site Bebo to sort them out with a mobile version of their social website.
This was a pretty badly kept secret as we had already heard this was likely to happen with Orange. Additionally Bebo had been on about coming to the mobile platform for the last year or so ever since FaceParty mentioned it.
The downside (or the up side in our eyes) is that Orange will only get the exclusive on Bebo for a few months before it is opened up to other networks. Thank god!
The new mobile Bebo service will allow users to edit their profiles and receive alerts from friends, among other features, but just how quick and accessible this will be is yet to be seen.
We can expect to see this Orange version of Mebo coming sometime this summer, around the same time that Vodafone brings out all the guns with its myspace offering, which personally will wipe the floor of bebo and probably get more people onto myspace in the long run.

Skype 3.2 beta for Windows is available from today. If you’re adventurous and an experienced Skype user, download now.
A nice new feature is the introduction of Paypal via Skype. For paypal use, both the sender and receiver just need to have a PayPal account. Can’t imagine why ebay own these two proggies? hmmm?
This feature is subject to PayPal limitations. You need to be in countries where Paypal supports respectively sending or receiving money. If you use it to send money to someone who cannot receive it, the funds are returned to your account or credit card, so it’s fine and no money is lost.
Importing contacts may help you find out that your friends are already on Skype, just not in your contacts yet. When the importer has downloaded your contacts from the various sites, it does an intelligent search on the Skype network to see if these people are already on Skype. They often are, and so you don’t need to pursue them to download Skype or anything - you can just add them to your contacts right away. But if they are not on Skype yet, you can send them an e-mail to invite them to Skype straight from Import contacts wizard.
Will be interesting to see how they start to push the paypal thing over the next few months when this comes out of beta. The question is, does this bode well or will it be another nightmare for us to deal with in our constant battle against fraudsters?
