Google to Launch Mobile Phone Network

At the moment this is from one source, but apparently Google is looking to start it’s own MVNO in the UK by piggybacking on the O2 network.

A VERY bad choice if this is true. Why? Because O2 have some serious data issues. I am more than suprised that they have not gone with T-mobile or 3 as their data options are far better, and I mean this from a technical stand point rather than a consumer price plan.

The main aim seems to be the desire for Google to ship phones with their mobile software on, and presumably ads too. This may not be a Google phone though, it sounds as if it will be a selection of branded Nokia handsets.

As techcrunch put it:

“This is highly speculative at this point and is based on a single source. A lot of Google mobile phone rumors have turned out to be false.”

Stay tuned for more info. Do you think Google branching out to mobile networks is a good idea?

guidecast Launching Mobile Link Network

guideCast, an innovative provider of mobileservices and advertising campaigns, today announced the launch of its mobile link network,a powerful programs for boosting the awareness and distribution of mobile sites.

Geared towards “off-deck” mobile sites, the network is free of charge and once members register, they simply copy a single line of code on their mobile sites.

By joining the network, site owners can dramatically increase the number of people viewing their content and dramatically increase their page views and visits to their mobile sites.

guideCast’s Managing Director, Jeff Brookes says, “the concept is similar to that of a banner exchanges on the web side - where one member displays a mobile banner for another member’s mobile site and vise versa.

Our infrastructure and backend does all the tracking, balancing and banner displaying. So from the member’s point of view, getting up an running is simple.”Mobile site owners can sign up now on http://www.guidecast.com/mobilenetwork/

Send Anonymous SMS Text Messages Instantly!

A year on and the UK based anonymous text message service TextAnonymous.com is storming ahead. With plans to introduce a cheaper subscription based model shortly that can be used while on the move it seems that this fun, and sometimes useful anonymous sms service is really doing the business.

Although the current price is slightly higher than some of it’s competitors, it does not require convoluted sign ups and log-ins, page reloads, tricky navigation etc. It simply does exactly what it says, from one page, using a combination of your mobile phone and the web based interface.

Originally you could specify the number you wanted the message to come from. This was predictably open to abuse and was soon changed to allow a selection of originators from a drop down box. This stopped people from being able to pretend to be other people but kept the raw element of fun and hi jinx that the service provides. The ability to send from “Cupid” proved incredibly popular on valentines day with a huge spike in the number of messages sent via the service.

Once this makes the jump into the standalone mobile arena it should see a new lease of life as it removes the requirement for a pc and lets people send anonymous text messages while on the move.

The spin off sister site UrMyCrush.com takes the concept a little further to help match potential lovers together in much the same fashion as the anonymous email matching systems of the 90’s. It’s nice to see an old favourite given a lick of paint and pulled into the new century.
