Fountainhead Entertainment has been renamed id Mobile. Fountainhead, which does a poor job of maintaining their web site, this announcement can’t be found on their site; is a Game Development Company owned by Katherine Kang. The gamers know Katherine, if you’re not a gamer then you don’t know that Katherine is married to John Carmack. John owns id Software and is the creator of some mega popular games like Doom and Quake.
Why are they getting into mobile? Not because mobile is going to replace PC gaming. Far from it, I don’t see that happening. The space is going to evolve though and smart companies cannot simply sit on the sidelines without getting their market share, if they do someone else will grab it. Besides it’s already a profitable business for id.
“The way I look at is we’re doing good business on mobile right now. We’ve sold nearly 2 million units on the different things, it’s profitable, it’s paying for all its development. As we step up our mobile focus, we’ll about double our effort, we should be doubling our revenues and more than doubling our profits. It should continue, in the worst case, to be this really nice addition to the business.”
John Carmack
id Mobile is looking to release 4 games per year and is projecting 20-30 mobile projects over the next 6 years.

This is the article I commented for just before I left for vacation. Subway didn’t mess around and pressed the gas peddle down on this one. Nice job on the article Jamie!

Wow, what a long day. We woke up at 5:45AM in Sacramento CA., boarded a Southwest flight to Phoenix at 10AM then made our way to Denver and finally Tampa. I walked in my front door at 10PM. Here it is 12:20AM and I’m not tired so it will probably hit me tomorrow. My 22 Month old is still running around at full speed too.
It looks like I’m several hundred emails and 1,000 blog posts in the hole, yikes! It’s worth it though because we had a fantastic time with my Family, plus we made plans to travel to Norway in June which I’m really looking forward to.
I took tomorrow off so that I can catch up on sleep and go to our storage and get out the Christmas decorations. Oh, and apparently my water softener went wonky on me while we were gone so fixing that is on the agenda tomorrow too.

While the rest of the Country is shopping their brains out today I’m trekking with the Family to Muir Woods National Monument. If you’ve not experienced the Red Wood Trees at Muir then put it on your list of things you must do, it’s one of the most beautiful National Parks that you will ever visit.

I’m going bowling this morning with my Dad and Brothers and we’ve arranged it so that we’re eating 1 hour before the Colts game. My Brother is a huge Colts fan. Hope you are enjoying Thanksgiving.

To Sacramento… light posting over the next few days. I’ve got some Napa Valley Vineyards, Redwood Trees, Turkey and Football on the agenda this week with my family.

As of 5:30 PM this evening I was officially on vacation which I’m definitely ready for. The last few weeks have been really tough for me my Family. Either my Daughter, Wife or myself have all been ill with one thing or another at various times over the last couple of weeks. Then just when we thought that all of us were out of the woods and things would return to normal my Wife was bitten very badly on her hand by a Dog and that decommissioned her for a few more days not to mention how difficult it made things trying to manage a 22 Month old toddler that apparently has the energy of the both of us combined. Try that with one good hand, I applaud my Wife, I know I couldn’t do it but she’s amazing. Oh, and as I sit here typing my daughter has another cold. Go figure huh?
So anyway, I started futzing around with the latest Android bits and made my own Hello World within a few minutes. Hey, everybody has to have a Hello World App right? It’s really easy to get started and I’ve got the whole thing up and running on my Vista box which I wasn’t sure would even work but it did. Here’s what I have:
If you click the Android Phone Emulator you can see the sample. I’m going to keep playing around with this, it seems really simple to use so far and java looks and feels like c# to me so I’m having no trouble with the language.
