5 ‘Must Have’ Features On a Mobile Phone

These days there are hundreds, if not thousands of mobile phone models and variations in the market. At the same time there is a host of new and exciting ones that we already know about and are making their way to our sweaty texting hands, for example the Nokia N95.

Years ago, a phone with a camera in was an amazing concept and one that has still not got to the quality it should be by now, however, a phone without a camera included these days is considered old, even if the phone is a new model and the customer may never want to use a camera, it just has to have it.

In the interest of… well interest, we asked David to choose his 5 must have mobile features and this is what he came up with:

1, GPS
No question on this one. I get lost. I drive. I want to know where the hell I am. But, ideally I want it to use Google Maps, include live traffic data, and show my “friends” locations relative to mine so I know if I am going to crash into them or can go pop in to pizza hut if that’s where they are.

2, 4+ megapixel camera
It must have DECENT optical zoom lens. Many cameras have the data catch but they don’t have the lens to grab a good image. This would be a big must for me.

3, Retractable headphones
I want headphones. Perhaps for hands free, perhaps for listening to music, but I don’t want to have to carry them around with me. So, retractable ones that go inside the phone behind a panel when not in use would be ideal!

4, Zone Based Security
If my phone gets stolen I want it to turn itself off and delete everything when it gets more than 400ft away from me. This would perhaps be done by having a sensor on a watch or in my shoe etc so that when the range is too far I know my data wont go with it. Perhaps this should be extended to laptops with the recent thefts of credit card data etc? hmm?

5, Free Stuff!
The next version of the phone should be free if I bought the initial model the day it came out. If it wasn’t for people like us first time buyers they would have no way to test to the masses. We pay obove the odds and we use their phones to the full so it would be nice to get some kind of rebate or reward for having helped them get to revision 2 of the dream device.

We want to know what are your 5 MUST HAVE features on a mobile phone? Perhaps a phone that has not been released yet? Maybe your dream phone? What are the features that could be put into a handset that would make you drool with desire and buy it the moment it comes out?

Fictional, real, existing or upcoming… we don’t mind, but we would love to know what the features are and why you would want them.

Now, as a bit of excitement and so you get something out of this we have decided to make this a group blogging project. This means the following:

  • You post on your blog about the must have features you want
  • At the end you link back to this post and ask others to join in
  • Comment on this post to let us know where we can find yours
  • Or email the link to us
  • On April 6th we will post with a link to each of your entries
  • People will see everyones desired features
  • People will laugh at many of them
  • Everyone gets some link love, new traffic and new readers

We would also ask that when we post the entire list on the 6th of April that you might post that list, or at least a link to it, on your blog to so that everyone can see what everyone else wrote.

If you don’t have a blog you can still join in by posting your dream features for a mobile phone in the comments section.

Good luck all!

Cellphone options these days are plentiful, to say the least. Trying to find the right combination of form and function can be…well, a trying experience. But what if you could have it your way and make your own cell phone?

A GPS tracking device that works even when the phone is off so you can track it when it has been stolen. An additional, internal power source that is seperate from the battery but gets recharged when you charge the battery (if that makes sense)

Also, rather than the data being wiped when the phone is 400 yards away from you, how about a simple signal sent to it that does the job. You can have the signal sent when you know it’s been lost or stolen.
