Amazon isn’t content to be the world’s biggest online retailer or one of the fastest growing tablet makers in the world. Now it wants to conquer the living room entertainment market as well.
According to published reports last night, Amazon will launch its Apple TV competitor – a set-top box for streaming digital content – next week on April 2nd.
On Thursday, Amazon began distributing invites to select members of the media for next week’s event. Reporters are invited to attend so that Amazon can provide an “update on our video business.”
The invite, which depicts a living room setting, obviously foreshadows a living room product.
“Amazon’s device will compete with offerings from Apple, which has sold 13 million units of its Apple TV box, Roku, which has sold 8 million units, and Google, which has said it has sold ‘millions’ of its Chromecast sticks,” says Peter Kafka of re/code.
