AT&T Rolls Out Massive MMS Sweepstakes

AT&T is making an overture through the mobile channel to reach college football fans everywhere. The second largest carrier in the US is inviting this large segment of the population to take part in an elaborate MMS sweepstakes just in time for the 2010 Cotton Bowl Classic.

Teaming with mobile marketing agency Ipsh to power the sports-related promotion, AT&T is asking fans to contribute their images via MMS, email, or web page upload in what’s being dubbed the inaugural “AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic photo mosaic.”

“The main goal of the program was to create an engaging promotion that allowed fans to participate and could be executed in market, in retail and on location before, during and after the game,” said Deborah Buentello of AT&T.

In a nutshell, AT&T is putting big effort and big bucks behind the sweepstakes which commemorates the first time the Cotton Bowl Classic will be played at the new Cowboys Stadium outside of Dallas, Texas. Via the sweepstakes, fans can submit upwards of fifty photos per day, with each photo entering the participant for an opportunity to win tickets to the January 2nd football event.

Arguably the most interactive mobile campaign ever launched by AT&T, upon submission of photos, participants receive a code to go online and monitor the location of their images within the mosaic. Every day AT&T will update the content and continue building what will amount to a massive mosaic indeed.

“This game presented an opportunity for AT&T to capitalize on excitement around the event and new venue to create a unique activation and fan experience,” Buentello says. And it continues to illustrate AT&T’s growing reliance upon mobile marketing campaigns to drive a wide variety of large national promotions.
