AdMob is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its acquisition by Google, and is announcing some impressive statistics as a result.
In total, AdMob traffic has grown by over 3.5 times over the past year. In April alone, the ad network was processing over 2.7 billion requests per day — up from just over 2 billion in January. In addition, the company said there are now over 80,000 mobile Websites and apps in the AdMob network, up from over 50,000 in January. Ad requests are coming from 11 total countries, the company said, which is up from just three a year ago.

Google is delving deeper into the realm of social networking with the addition of the +1 button, which will effectively make search results through Google more social than ever.
By Google’s own admission, the +1 button is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.”
In a nutshell, by clicking +1, you are publicly giving something “your stamp of approval.” In the process, search becomes more social as your +1′s “can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.”

Sprint and Google have taken the Google Voice experience and ramped it up a notch, effectively making it possible for Sprint customers to set their existing Sprint wireless phone number as their Google Voice number.
According to the formal announcement of the integrated Google Voice experience, Sprint customers will, in fact, be able to tap all the well-known features and benefits of Google Voice “without the hassle and fees associated with porting their number.”
Sprint, which is the only carrier to currently offer this capability, will be available soon on all Sprint CDMA phones, including the forthcoming Nexus S 4G1, which comes preloaded with the Google Voice Android app.

With the stated goal of helping you find the right place when you need to find it most, Google is enhancing its local mobile search services with a the new “open now” feature.
Heralding the development on the Official Google Mobile Blog, software engineers Yoshi Matsumoto and Keiji Maekawa say the new filter is directing users precisely to where they want – or need – to be.
In the US, we launched an “open now” feature which lets you filter local search results to show only businesses that are open right now, based on their listed hours. When you’re hankering for pizza at 1 o’clock in the morning, this can be really handy.

On Thursday, Google announced its latest move to conjoin the company’s popular online services with widely used social networking platforms.
According to a post on the Official Google Blog, Google’s search results are poised to embrace social media to an entirely new and greater extent.
In short, relevant social media content will now be interspersed across one’s search results page. That is, your search results will be supplemented by social media content pertinent to the original search inquiry.
Although it was first introduced two years ago, “Google Social Search” has always dispatched social media-related content to the bottom of the search results page.

A prime example of the ongoing explosion in mobile usage is provided by the latest stats from Google’s AdMob network.
Google acquired AdMob for $750 million in 2009.
Harsh Shah of the Google Mobile Ads Marketing Team posted on Friday that AdMob network of mobile sites and applications now receives more ad requests in a single day than AdMob received for the entire month of December 2007.
That’s “a magnitude of 30 times in just over three years,” Shah writes.
