Juniper is “banking” on turning some heads with its newest report, aptly titled “Mobile Money Transfer & Remittances.”
According to Juniper’s latest research, the number of consumers using mobile handsets to make P2P (Person to Person) domestic money transfers will reach 340 million by 2016, up from 84 million last year.
The study in question reveals that following the success of Safaricom’s MPESA service in Kenya, both network operators and financial service providers in developing markets are increasingly using mobile distribution mechanisms as a means of enabling “underbanked” consumers to access financial services for the first time.

ABI research published Friday that the mobile Internet is on pace to account for 25% of China’s mobile revenues in 2012 – that’s up from less than 23% last year.
By comparison, in India, mobile Internet will represent 19% of this year’s service revenue.
“While the figures demonstrate the robust demand for mobile data across the Asia-Pacific,” the report reads, “they still pale in comparison to the region’s more advanced markets.”

This week, the Federal Reserve reported findings from the survey it recently spearheaded which was designed to show the latest habits and trends among mobile consumers.
And the report tells us nothing we didn’t already know. Mobile usage is on fire and poised to grow at an exponential rate.
Consumers already make significant use of the Internet to inform their major purchases, the Fed survey shows. A majority of respondents (58 percent) indicate that they comparison-shop online, and the same percentage say they look at product reviews before making a large purchase while at a retail store. Even though security concerns may make consumers wary of mobile devices as the payment mechanism for point of-sale purchases, the technology can enable shopping and comparisons of products and services.
