Developer Mindshare Dominated by iOS Android 211x300 Developer Mindshare Dominated by iOS, AndroidAccording to the findings of the newest Developer Economics Q3 report, Android and iOS appear to control the solid majority of developer mindshare.

Based on the findings, Android is now the leading developer platform at 71 percent. iOS, meanwhile, takes a 56 percent share.

State of the Developer Nation is the 5th in the series of Developer Economics reports, based on the largest, most global developer survey (over 6,000 respondents from 115 countries). This report tracks the state of mobile ecosystems, developer mindshare, monetization trends, revenue models and developer tools.

Also of note from the new report is the discovery that 52 percent of the developer community presently uses HTML5 technologies for developing mobile apps.

“In particular,” Hayes says, the expansion of location based mobile marketing “might very well steal the show.”

Apple Acquires Particle for Undisclosed Price 300x141 Apple Acquires Particle for Undisclosed PriceNews came to light early Wednesday that Mac-maker Apple has acquired a creative consulting company called Particle.

The small – and we mean small – San Francisco based firm has fewer than a dozen employees that are trained in developing web applications and marketing using HTML5. But the skills are apparently adequate to attract the big buyer that Apple represents.

If you’re not familiar with Particle, the company was founded in 2008 and has celebrity start-up capital from the likes of MySpace investor Justin Timberlake.

 Social Game Publisher Drops Facebook to Pursue iOS, AndroidIn what comes as another indication that social game publishers still prefer native mobile apps to social networking platforms, Wooga – a popular and growing publisher of mobile games – is changing its dependence level on Facebook, at least for now.

Moving forward, Wooga will emphasize native releases where the mobile masses best engage with games – on iOS and Android.

A rep for Facebook tells MMW that Wooga is “handing HTML5 development of the game over to the open source community… The only update is that they’re releasing an open source version of Magic Land as Pocket Land. The original game, Magic Land, is still integrated with Facebook.”

The decision comes after Wooga became one of the first leading names in the space to embrace Facebook’s expansion of platform APIs and dev tools late last fall.
