On Thursday, BIA/Kelsey issued a new forecast which suggests that U.S. mobile local advertising revenues will grow from $1.2 billion in 2012 to $9.1 billion in 2017.
Should these numbers manifest, it will represent a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 49.3 percent.
According to the firm’s recently released U.S. Local Media Forecast (2012-2017), total U.S. mobile ad spending will grow from $3.2 billion in 2012 to $16.8 billion in 2017.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has closed a deal to acquire WifiSLAM.
WifiSLAM is largely focused on building technology that affords users positioning data while indoors.
Apple paid an estimated $20 million for the Silicon Valley-based company, according to a person familiar with the matter.

On Tuesday, Millennial Media published a special Year in Review edition of the SMART report.
With a year-over-year look at key global advertiser trends in 2012, the report also features global data from the Millennial Media platform with a focus on the top verticals, campaign goals and actions, and audiences for the year.
For example, the independent ad network reported seeing 12 different verticals grow spend by over 100 percent year-over-year, and 4 verticals grew spend by over 400 percent. Government Services led the way, and grew 860 percent (primarily driven by election spending).
