On Wednesday, the chief executive of Siano Mobile Silicon Ltd., an Israel-based maker of TV chips for mobile devices, spoke with Bloomberg about his company’s burgeoning opportunities in the United States.
Siano, it seems, is moving toward an initial public offering sometime next year. The prominent manufacturer of chips that allow mobile devices to receive digital TV signals has CEO Alon Ironi giving ample consideration to the potential of mobile television – an industry the company head believes is in need of an image makeover.
“We need to see the creation of a positive perception of the mobile-TV market in the eyes of the financial community,” Ironi tells Bloomberg. “It’s almost a condition for going public. Right now, if you talk to an average analyst, all they know about mobile TV is it failed.”

Another prominent name in mobile technology has plans to go public.
MobiTV, the popular platform that enables smartphone users to watch live television, filed to raise upwards of $75 million in an initial public offering of stock, according to a Bloomberg report late Wednesday.
The company’s filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, however, did not reveal how many shares MobTV is planning to offer. Although MobiTV plans to trade under the symbol MBTV, it has not yet been revealed which exchange the shares would be listed on.

Mobile Digital Television is expanding at an exponential rate and will likely reach two-thirds of U.S. households by early 2012.
According to the Open Mobile Video Coalition of America’s (OMVC) broadcasters, myriad TV broadcast stations are presently working overtime to install new transmission equipment that will allow live, local TV signals to reach viewers wherever they go in a local market.
The estimates come from a new survey of member plans spearheaded by the OMVC, which says that 96 stations are already on-the-air with Mobile DTV.

Premium cable television giant HBO is on brag-watch. The iconic name in home entertainment says its recently released HBO Go app has reached three million downloads.
HBO Go enables HBO subscribers to view more than 1,400 programs on demand via their Apple iPad tablets, iPhones, and Android devices, assuming their cable providers support the app.
HBO Go saw 1 million downloads in its first week of availability alone.
