Could young people benefit from a text message service that jogs their thoughts and actions about bullying?
DoSomething.org, the largest organization for young people and social change, and Be a STAR, an anti-bullying initiative co-founded in 2011 by The Creative Coalition and global entertainment company WWE, think so.
The organizations have partnered up to offer “The Bully Text: Superstar Edition,” a campaign that employs an SMS text message game to encourage young people to take action to combat bullying.

SMS spammers are every bit as irritating as they are plentiful.
And Jared Reitzin, the CEO of mobileStorm, is fed up with it.
“Anyone else get super annoying SMS spam trying to sell sunglasses?” Reitzin asks in a recent post to the Digital Marketing Blog, the official blog of mobileStorm.

When a lawsuit against Yahoo was dismissed by US District Court Judge Michael Baylson, you can bet that the Internet behemoth was relieved that the judge sided with them in saying that they had not violated any Telephone Consumer Protection Act laws.
Those laws specifically prohibit the use of auto dialers to send SMS messages without a recipient’s consent, but Philadelphia resident Bill Dominquez says that he indeed received those messages, to the tune of approximately 5000 in a five-month period. Dominquez wants the lawsuit to continue but, not surprisingly, Yahoo is asking for the court to uphold the decision to dismiss it.

On Monday, MMW was briefed by the team at SAP regarding the expansion of the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio.
The latest addition is that of a mobile application management component, which the company calls “a white-label, localizable and secure enterprise app store that makes it easy for companies to simply and proactively push their mobile apps into the hands of employees, business partners and consumers.”
For managed users, the company says of its newest solution, it identifies when their device is out of compliance and directs them to download the appropriate mobile device management (MDM) solution, regardless of the MDM vendor, before they are able to install any apps.

mHealthWatch reports that the percentage of smartphone owners wanting heath care alerts via SMS or any form of notification on their mobile devices has reached a new all-time high.
A recently published global survey by FICO shows that 80 percent of people would like the option to use their smartphones to interact with health care providers.
The predictive analytics and decision management software company says these organizations include government and private insurers, hospitals, pharmacies, mail-order drug companies, third party administrators and clinics.

In a complaint filed Tuesday, the Federal Trade Commission charged mobile phone service provider T-Mobile USA with making “hundreds of millions of dollars” by placing charges on mobile phone bills for purported “premium” SMS subscriptions that, in many cases, were allegedly “bogus charges that were never authorized by its customers.”
The FTC alleges that T-Mobile received anywhere from 35 to 40 percent of the total amount charged to consumers for subscriptions for content such as flirting tips, horoscope information or celebrity gossip that typically cost $9.99 per month.
T-Mobile in some cases continued to bill its customers for these services offered by scammers years after becoming aware of signs that the charges were fraudulent, a provided statement from the FTC reads.
