Clickatell announced Wednesday that its introducing the new Clickatell Mobile Campaign Manager.
So what’s the new offering all about? According to the company behind the new platform, it’s a social mobile solution optimized to give small and medium businesses the short message service tools needed for mobile marketing campaigns that “engage new customers and deepen existing customer relationships.”
Although standing out in an increasingly crowded space is never easy, Clickatell appears poised to handle itself pretty well amidst heavy competition from rival mobile marketing platforms.

On Friday, Portio Research published the 6th edition of ‘Mobile Messaging Futures’ which boldly predicts MMS to be a cash machine over the next four years.
According to Portio, MMS – launched after the initial success of SMS to deliver multimedia content – has until recently been the second greatest revenue generating non-voice service, after SMS.
Last year, roughly $31 billion of the worldwide mobile messaging market’s $202 billion came from MMS.

An abundance of mobile ads flooding today’s market still haven’t discouraged a majority of mobile users from being receptive to a good deal served up via SMS.
According to the latest data presented by YouGov, a survey on SMS and mobile phone marketing showed the following:
- 65% of people like offers on their mobile phones
- 75% of smartphone users prefer receiving offers via SMS
- 83% would prefer to receive no more than two offer per month

On Thursday, the mobile marketing technology gurus at CommerceTel Corporation confirmed that Utah State University has renewed their mobile texting program for the next three years using CommerceTel’s technology.
A new texting club sponsored by the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business during the 2011-12 school year attracted over 4,000 students, according to the school’s co-director of strategic marketing and brand management Eric Schulz.
Once again proving the power of text on a college campus, the club, created as a way to inform students about upcoming business school events, also sent out information about general campus events. And the results were immediately noticeable.

The likes of Apple’s iMessage and other free social messaging apps and services now available across myriad platforms are costing mobile operators dearly.
On Wednesday, Ovum published a new report that lends some data to the suspicion that 2011 was not a banner year for mobile operators in terms of text/SMS revenue.
Ovum’s research shows that consumers’ increasing use of IP-based social messaging services on their smartphones cost telecom operators $8.7 billion in lost SMS revenues in 2010, and $13.9 billion in 2011.
