I’m on vacation this week and I’ve declared that I want to do 50 things! This morning I took my truck in for its 15K mile service, I was 5K miles late…. whoops. 49 things to go!
I decided to play around with a couple of technologies. For starters I’m dictating this blog post from my new Logitech USB microphone. This does take some getting used to but it’s kind of interesting. Once you get the basics down and get your computer trained to your voice it’s actually a really simple.
I am however running into some difficulty with the Stumble toolbar. If anyone knows how to work around those issues please drop me a comment. Sometimes, when I say exclamation mark the Stumble tool bar decides to kick into action! A little extra value for no added charge
The other neat thing that I purchased today at CompUSA was a WAYCOM pen so that I may jot some notes and draw my own diagrams for my blog. I’ll probably monkey around with that later, right now I’m off to join my family for the afternoon in our pool.
47 more things to do.

Sounds too good to be true right?
It’s not, advertisers can tap into a very electronically connected group of mobile consumers through earthcomber. I spent some time looking at their business model this evening after I tried out their mobile search service which rocks by the way, try it out. I used my zip code to narrow the field very quickly to stuff right ‘near me’. In my neighborhood its incredibly accurate with the distance.
Here’s the model from what I can gather.

Today, earthcomber is in the 25M user smartphone market, by Q4 this year they have plans to expand into the 200M+ cellphone user market and in 2008 they’ll be into the 250M+ Cars and PC user market.
So, how do you get in for $35? By purchasing flat rate keywords. Flat rate means that you won’t get caught up in keyword bidding wars or click fraud either. That’s a plus plus if your an Ad Buyer. $35 is the minimum but think about the coverage you can get with the right keyword! I wonder how many times earthcomber will sell a single keyword? Earthcomber??
Try the service from your phone. I’ll bet you come back and try it a second time. I did. I was looking for a Mexican restaurant that my wife and I really like because the food is authentic.
So, I set my zip code, clicked find stuff

Then I clicked on Lets Eat and Mexican…

I located Pablano Mexican Grill and Bar

Lastly, I got the map

This took me less than 30 seconds to complete my search. Oh, and I did use the earthcomber emulator for the demo shots because the digital pictures I was taking of my own mobile phone were really not the greatest quality.

I saw some news breaking this morning about Microsoft offering live web storage but I’ve not been able to confirm how that would work with a mobile device yet. Does anyone know? Apparently, 5000 people were invited to try the service which doesn’t sound competitive at only 500MB.

The other day I mentioned the sms services that mobileStorm offers and generally speaking I wrote a positive piece that I ended with a minor grumble about the menu behavior on their web site. In all fairness, I should have probably added “don’t let that keep you away”.
Earlier this afternoon, I was contacted by their creative director and I’m paraphrasing here… but he was dying to sorta know more detail as to what I had meant. I got the impression from the email that several folks in the organization were really trying to figure out what specifically was bothering me about that navigation menu.
I’m really glad that they contacted me. To me this illustrates one of the great attributes about blogging. Smart companies like mobileStorm watch the blogosphere and react positively to what they are hearing. Hopefully, they’ll pop in here and comment not just on the menu but other interesting things that they’ve got going on.
