There’s an article in the WSJ today titled “Big Oil’s Not-So-Big Growth Plans” which indicates that Western Oil companies are struggling to to reach new Oil reserves and could be potentially posturing for a smaller role as future energy players. This might explain why one Big Oil company, Chevron is jumping into the 700MHz auction. Here are the bidders (see page 3)
Here’s a couple of snippets from the article…
“None of these companies are interested in shrinking, but that is effectively what they are doing,” says Charles Swanson, managing partner in the Houston office of accounting firm Ernst & Young”
“They simply don’t have enough lucrative opportunities to invest says Faith Birol, chief economist of the Paris-based International Energy Agency”
Interesting.

Tomorrow I expect to introduce 2 new writers for the Mobile Marketing Watch. I received a tremendous response to my call for writers and it’s been tough getting through all of the emails. In fact, I’ve got a group of ten finalists… that was narrowed down from over 50.
Thanks to everyone that sent in requests or resumes.

I added a few more mobile blogs to my Google Reader today. MobHappy also got added to my mobile links section.
Check it out if you get a chance, there’s a really interesting post by Carlo Longino regarding a story that apparently made the rounds at CES with respect to ESPN.com and how the NFL portion of that site received more mobile traffic than PC traffic. Maybe mobile guy should make an appearance in the next Mac/PC commercial and rib PC a little over this one huh?
This is actually a really big deal for all you mobile marketing geeks out there; I’m surprised I didn’t hear more about this in the mobile marketing circle.

That would be pretty interesting Alvin. They couldn’t pick a better mobile partner if that turns out to be true.

They’re free! What? Really, they’re free. Keep reading.
I got an email today asking how much I would charge for a link in the links section on my navigation bar. Truth is, I don’t sell links and never have. Those sites all earned links by simply writing a good blog that I thought warranted a recommendation to MMW readers. So, that’s how you get there… write a good mobile blog and if I come across it and like it then your in, free of charge. If I don’t come across it email me.
I actually read several mobile related blogs daily but I don’t list them all in my Links area. Not that there’s a criteria, I just haven’t listed them all. Here are a few others that I follow and like:
What mobile blogs are you following?

I just caught the commercial during the Patriots Chargers game. Sprint, on the heels of announcing 4000 layoffs and shuttering 125 retail locations has launched a nationwide unlimited text plan for $10 per month. It’s a great looking campaign for a company that had an incredibly difficult week.
They also announced a $200 million dollar accounting charge that will be associated with the severances and layoffs. That’s a lot a scratch for a company that is struggling. Not that layoffs are ever good but it’s nice to see a company come up with severance and in this case it appears to be a considerable amount.
