Intel is engulfed in one of the biggest and most exciting rumors we are bound to see at the close of 2012. In fact, with this being New Year’s Eve, it may be the final blockbuster tech rumor of 2012.
According to the latest information from credible sources close to the tech giant, a set-top box similar to the Apple TV may be in the works at Intel. The company may also unveil a new cable service to go with it as early as next month.
A source in the video distribution industry tells TechCrunch that the semiconductor company is “dead serious about getting its chips into the living room.”
The plan is to create a set-top box and subscription TV service that would appeal to people who want streaming TV access but don’t want to entirely cut the cable cord and lose key content like sports.
Based on what we’re told, new service would provide both traditional channels and streaming content from leading names in the space.
Best of all… we may get our first look at the new Intel platform at CES when the event gets underway next week on January 7th.
