This week at its Build developers conference, Microsoft directed the spotlight to Windows 8.1 while boasting about the growth of Windows Phone in the process.
Senior Windows Phone product manager Larry Lieberman said during an interview that the company looks favorably at the progress of Windows Phone 8 so far.
“We think we’re solidly the third ecosystem right now,” Lieberman tells The Verge. “That’s a huge announcement in some respects.”
In fact Windows Phone overtook BlackBerry in May, but it’s still very much a two-horse race with Android and iOS dominating.
And Lieberman makes one thing clear about the smartphone world’s comeback kid
“I don’t think they [BlackBerry] can bring to the table some of the things we have,” Lieberman adds. “The fact like we’re delivering across such a different set of price points to such a large audience.”
All told, Lieberman says, Windows Phone is “growing faster than anyone else right now.”
