In an effort to help protect the world from a global Swine Flu pandemic, Harvard Medical School is turning to the mobile channel and modifying our iPhones into H1N1 combat weapons.
“The Swine Flu App” is just the latest application within the health care industry to address public health and safety, yet this latest mobile offering from Harvard Medical School carries the credibility that can only come from the affiliation with such a prestigious institution.
Now available for download at a cost of $1.99, the new iPhone app provides alerts about Swine Flu outbreaks within your geographic proximity. The app also includes videos, animations and text that allow you to learn more about swine flu, where outbreaks are taking place, and how to prevent contracting the illness.
As the Washington Post reported this week, the Swine Flu App is just a small part of Harvard Medical School’s greater mobile strategy dubbed HMS Mobile. In the months ahead, Harvard Medical School will likely roll out an aggressive series of iPhone apps exclusively dedicated to promoting public health.
Although it may be gigantic exaggeration to assert that the new iPhone application can actually save your life or even prevent anyone from contracting the illness, medical experts say knowledge is power when it comes to at least avoiding the virus. And, in this regard, the iPhone app is a great tool for our personal well-being.
