Video monetization firm FreeWheel says that 12 percent of all online videos viewed in Q4 2012 were watched on smartphones or tablet computers.
Presented in their newest annual Video Monetization Report, FreeWheel says mobile video consumption was just 2% in Q4 2011.
Not surprisingly, Apple devices continue to dominate video viewing with a 60% of share, the report reads. Android comprises 31% in comparison.
All told, more than 1.8 billion video views took place on Apple and Android devices in Q4 2012, and the volume of video views grew 30% from Q3 2012 to Q4 2012 alone.
“Android has seen major increases in 2012, [but] the operating system is likely hindered by lack of a breakout tablet product,” FreeWheel estimates.
The bottom line?
“With over 12% of all video viewing now happening on non-PC/Mac devices,” the report concludes, “producers need to ensure content is available for viewing from smartphones, tablets, and game consoles as consumers embrace the video everywhere phenomenon lead by Apple and Android devices.”
