A year on and the UK based anonymous text message service TextAnonymous.com is storming ahead. With plans to introduce a cheaper subscription based model shortly that can be used while on the move it seems that this fun, and sometimes useful anonymous sms service is really doing the business.
Although the current price is slightly higher than some of it’s competitors, it does not require convoluted sign ups and log-ins, page reloads, tricky navigation etc. It simply does exactly what it says, from one page, using a combination of your mobile phone and the web based interface.
Originally you could specify the number you wanted the message to come from. This was predictably open to abuse and was soon changed to allow a selection of originators from a drop down box. This stopped people from being able to pretend to be other people but kept the raw element of fun and hi jinx that the service provides. The ability to send from “Cupid” proved incredibly popular on valentines day with a huge spike in the number of messages sent via the service.
Once this makes the jump into the standalone mobile arena it should see a new lease of life as it removes the requirement for a pc and lets people send anonymous text messages while on the move.
The spin off sister site UrMyCrush.com takes the concept a little further to help match potential lovers together in much the same fashion as the anonymous email matching systems of the 90′s. It’s nice to see an old favourite given a lick of paint and pulled into the new century.
CloakText is a new service that has made the jump into the standalone mobile arena! It lets you send anonymous texts straight from your phone, and doesn’t need registration, signup or anything. There’s even a section of the site where you can download the instructions as a ‘business card’, so you can keep them in your wallet for whenever you need them!
Hm… and what is so different from the solution offered by the most of VoIP providers (sipgate for example) – users are able to send SMS via the web interface and has an option to stay Anonymous or send number-info.
