Should Porn Be Apple’s Biggest Fear?

droidnews bigger Should Porn Be Apples Biggest Fear? The musical Avenue Q might want to update it’s lyrics to “The Mobile Phone is for Porn.” While Apple has avoided allowing a porn store on its iPhone, Google’s Android device won’t judge. Called MiKandi, the world’s first adult-only app store was recently launched for Android devices.

In the porn-only store, users can search a range of free and paid applications. Users can post reviews and join discussions.

What does adult videos have to do with mobile marketing? Besides marketing for the adult industry, the availability of an app store for porn on Android devices may do wonders for competing with Apple. ZDNet’s Jason Perlow poses the question “will the adult industry drive Android adoption?”

In the post, he highlights that what’s important is how Android may have many independent app stores in the future for all sorts of interests (instead of Apple’s one all-controlling app store.)

“The prospects for expanding into diversified markets on Android are larger than on any other mobile platform available today, because ‘censoring’ or rigorous and controlled app approval process tied to a single vendor — such as those that exist on the iPhone — do not exist on the Android platform. And probably never will,” writes Perlow.

Looking back on the history of media-related technology, most successes were influenced by open-doors policies for the adult industry. VHS tapes, DVD video and streaming Internet media all beat out competitors thanks to adoption of the porn industry. Will Android be the adult industry’s next tech success story?

  1. If I were Apple I would be scared. We all know that sex sells, admit it or not. Who doesn’t like portable porn? ;)

  2. I’m with the guy above. Google Android is making huge strides in the mobile market, and if it manages to fill the hole that the iPhone keeps on ignoring then they will be hard-pressed to stop its inevitable growth. I for one would never bet against Google..

Couldn’t agree more. Check out companies like Adultmoda – they seem to be doing millions of adult mobile ads per day and have launched something recently for android
