Two months ago, when Apple last updated its iOS mobile operating system, iOS 5.1 bestowed Japanese language support for Siri and lock screen access to the iPhone’s native Camera app.

On Monday, Evernote – company steeped in digital products designed to help people remember to do things – announced the acquisition of Penultimate, the most popular digital handwriting application for iPad.
Penultimate also happens to be the fourth best-selling iPad app of all time.
The acquisition will allow Evernote to expand its handwriting capabilities, while also making Penultimate available on more platforms and devices.

According to a new report published Thursday by Ovum, smartphones will outperform the overall market for mobile phones, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 24.9% between 2011-17.
If that projection manifests, it will mean that smartphone shipments will reach 1.7 billion units by 2017.
Predictions show Android as the dominant operating system over the next five years as handset vendors rush to make it their primary smartphone platform.

Since the first iPhone was released in 2007, rumors have swirled that Apple is entertaining the idea and technology behind creating a liquid metal-based future generation iPhone.
Although we have no way to confirm or deny the company’s purported exploration of that possibility, it finally appears that the liquid metal iPhone won’t become a reality at least in the near future.
Dr. Atakan Peker, the so-called inventor of Liquidmetal, says the technology behind a liquid metal iPhone isn’t ripe enough to be a viable and cost-effective material alternative for iPhone design and construction.

comScore on Tuesday published the latest data from its MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending March 2012.
Here’s what we now know. Google Android, not surprisingly, continued to grow its share in the U.S. smartphone market, accounting for 51 percent of smartphone subscribers.
Apple now trails dramatically with just over 30 percent of the market share.

As a result of Apple’s escalating Chinese aims, no shortage of leading Wall Street watchers and industry analysts are upping their estimates for how much business Apple will do in China during the coming years.
On Monday, Deutsche Bank’s Chris Whitmore published a research note titled: “iPhone is just getting started in China.” According to the analyst, Apple could sell as many as 35 million iPhones in China next year.
