Mobile Marketing InMobi Super Bowl Consumption Survey: 40 Percent Used Mobile During Game, Twice the Usage During First HalfMobile ad-network InMobi has released its Super Bowl XLVI Mobile Consumption Survey showing that, not surprisingly, mobile engagement was high during one of the most important advertising events of the year.

According to the survey, nearly 40% of respondents used mobile devices in response to TV ads and 45% estimated that they spent 30 minutes or more on their mobile devices during the game.  Interestingly, the survey showed that almost twice as many respondents used their mobile devices during the first half of the game compared to the second half – a powerful take-away for advertisers indeed.

Mobile Marketing Mobile Shocker: Android Winning Battle for First Time Smartphone BuyersOn Monday, The NPD Group reported its latest findings, which show that Apple leaped past Samsung and LG to become the best-selling U.S. handset brand in the fourth quarter of 2011.

“Attracted by a faster processor, improved camera and the Siri speech-driven agent, most iPhone buyers paid a premium for the iPhone 4S, making it the top-selling handset in Q4,” said Ross Rubin, executive director, Connected Intelligence for The NPD Group. “The iPhone 4S outsold the iPhone 4 by 75 percent, and outsold the iPhone 3GS, available for free on AT&T, five to one.”

Mobile Marketing Jumptap Says Tablet Traffic Jumped 229% Post ChristmasAccording to new information published Friday by the targeted mobile advertising gurus at Jumptap, tablet network traffic jumped 229 percent over an average projected for the day after Christmas, based on historical network traffic.

January 2, 2012 also saw a bump, with a 263 percentage traffic increase – most likely from recipients uploading holiday photos and getting familiar with their devices.

In Jumptap’s freshly released January MobileSTAT report, Jumptap found that the Kindle Fire experienced the greatest tablet growth throughout December.

comScore: Android Strengthens Smartphone Market Share


Mobile Marketing comScore: Android Strengthens Smartphone Market ShareOn Friday, comScore released the latest data from the comScore MobiLens service, which reports key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending December 2011.

The study found that Google Android strengthened its lead in the smartphone market during the period to capture a 47.3 percent market share.

All told, 234 million Americans age 13 and older used mobile devices during the three-month period ending in December.

97.9 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in December, representing 40 percent of all mobile subscribers.

Mobile Marketing Augmented Reality Continues to Confound Mobile App UsersAccording to a thought-provoking study published Wednesday by Ypulse, “even tech-savvy millennials are baffled” by augmented reality technology, particularly when its infused in mobile apps on leading smartphones.

“Augmented reality has become the futuristic media of the moment, but many consumers,” Ypulse says, but even mobile’s core audience – young, hip, tech-wise adults – are “having a hard time figuring it out.”

Based on the findings of Ypulse’s research, only 11% of high schoolers and collegians have ever used an augmented reality app.

Android, BlackBerry Bleeding Users to iPhone 4S


Mobile Marketing Android, BlackBerry Bleeding Users to iPhone 4SAccording to the latest data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), Apple’s iPhone 4S is picking up scores of new users from rival platforms.

Polling data published this week shows that 36 percent of iPhone 4S buyers previously owned Android, BlackBerry, or Palm devices.

Shaken out, the numbers show that 50 percent of upgraders came from BlackBerry, 39 percent from an Android phone, and 10 percent from a Palm handset.

PayPal Poised for Big Mobile Wallet Push at Home Depot


Mobile Marketing PayPal Poised for Big Mobile Wallet Push at Home DepotOn January 9th, Mobile Marketing Watch reported that PayPal and Home Depot are teaming to experiment with mobile wallet services at select Home Depot stores.

The trial testing allows shoppers to purchase items at checkout either directly through their mobile device or through a special PayPal card.

On Monday, it was reported that the number of “select stores” is expanding… to all of them.
